Zebrafish (Danio rerio) are exceptional model organisms widely used for biomedical research. The many strengths of these fish include their high degree of genetic conservation with humans and their simple, inexpensive maintenance. Gene expression can be easily manipulated in zebrafish embryos and a variety of genetic lines can be used to better understand important biological phenomenon.

Zebrafish adults, or their transparent larvae, can display a complex plethora of behaviors either as single individuals or in schools of fish. I have being assigned to illustrate these fish in different behavioral assays, and the challenge has been to convey a minimalistic approach without undermining too much their complex beauty.
